-"Welcome to Johann Lafer's Stromburg"

1000 years of castle history, a romantic and comfortable Relais & Châteaux hotel, two very special restaurants: Welcome to the Stromburg of the Lafer family, the place where who can enjoy culinary delights and exceptional hospitality with unforgettable memories.

This is where Johann Lafer lives and cooks.

Stromburg castle is less than an hour’s drive from the city of Frankfurt and within easy reach of Wiesbaden and Mainz. In the heart of the verdant Soonwald forest, the castle towers above the little medieval town of Stromberg, close to Hunsrück and the “Upper Middle Rhine Valley” UNESCO World Heritage Site. This was once the home of the swashbuckling cavalry officer Hans Michael Elias von Obentraut, also known as the “German Michel”.

The Lafer family has lavished much care and hard work on converting a former country inn into what is now one of Germany’s most outstanding gourmet restaurants. They have also succeeded in skilfully incorporating the historic Stromburg ruins into the new overall complex.

Today, a team of 70 caters for the needs of guests according to the Relais & Châteaux “Five Cs” philosophy – Cuisine, Courtesy, Charm, Character and Calm.

Stromburg, with its two restaurants Le Val d'Or and Bistro d'Or, is an ideal setting in which to be introduced to Johann Lafer’s culinary delights and to immerse yourself in an all-embracing ambience of wellbeing. Find out more about the pleasures that await you at Stromburg.
